What is Nurse Delegation?
Nurse delegation in Washington State began in 1996. This program allowed caregivers to perform certain tasks such as the administration of oral, nasal, topical and rectal medications, instill eye drops and ear drops, irrigate suprapubic catheter, perform oral and tracheal suctioning, blood sugar monitoring and insulin administration. The provision of the laws, RCW 18.79.260 and regulations, WAC 246-840-010, written by the nursing commission, these tasks, normally performed by a licensed nurse can now be delegated to caregivers.
The nurse delegator must teach and supervise the caregivers and provide a nursing assessment of the patient’s condition.

Private Pay
Private pay residents pay at their expense for all services they received in the adult family home, supported living and assisted living facility.
Nurse Delegation – No Assessment
$250.00
Private pay residents pay at their expense for all services they received in the adult family home, supported living and assisted living facility. The resident needs nurse delegation of other services aside from the administration of insulin.
Nurse Delegation – Blood Sugar and Insulin
$350.00
Private pay residents pay at their expense for all services they received in the adult family home, supported living and assisted living facility. The resident needs nurse delegation for services including the administration of insulin.
Nurse Delegation – 90 Days
$150.00
Private pay residents pay at their expense for all services they received in the adult family home, supported living and assisted living facility. The resident needs Nurse Delegator’s visit every 90 days.
State Pay
State pay residents receive services from Washington State under Medicaid or DSHS. Each resident has an assigned Social Worker or Case Manager who in turn contacts the Registered Nurse Delegator and starts payment through the Provider One services. Please contact the assigned SW (Social Work) or CM (Case Manager) and inform them of the nurse delegator’s name and phone number or send us a message.
Skilled Nursing
Price VariesAny nursing task that cannot be delegated by Registered Nurse. Nursing tasks that can only be performed by a RN. Example: IM injections, catheter changes, intensive wound care, etc.
